If you buy a MacPro now you're buying two year old hardware at a two year old price point. Instead Apple upgrades things in generations. Apple doesn't trickle new hardware in as vendors make updated versions of CPU, GPU, etc. They haven't been updated since 2013. That's the only thing I can think of in terms of render quality difference.It isn't time to buy a MacPro. Use DNxHD or DNxHR at 175x or higher and you'll get 10 bit color.

The OpenCL engine in Adobe has glitches on MacPro. The CPU (software only renderer that's 6 core, 8 core, 12 core when you're picking specs) is on one side of the triangle and the GPUs (OpenCL renderer, D500, D700 when picking specs) resides on the other two sides. Though circular on the outside the MacPro is trianglular on the inside.

To make matters worse the 8 core CPU outperforms the 12 core CPU in some instances due to having 8 faster cores. As it stands you can use about 30% of the power in a MacPro. Adobe can't fix it because the problem is deeper than they're allowed to get into the system.

If you're okay with glitches in your renders you can use the OpenCL renderer and unlock the other two sides of the triangle for Premiere. Note that the TDP on that chart (thermal displacement) is 130w across the board. Why are they slower? To fit the thermal constraints of that silly cylindrical design.

If push comes to shove /u/Kichigai can probably tell you how to take a DNxHD export and transcode it to ProRes on a PC using ffmpeg. Have a clear deliverable spec before you accept a job and if they want ProRes ask them if DNxHD is a suitable substitute as you're on a PC. That's the only significant difference. With a Mac you can author ProRes. Bins, Media Browser, Viewer, Canvas, Sequences, it's all the same.

I've had mine since early 2014 and it is awesome, though I am not aware of any rendering differences-video is just data.Although there are cheaper and more powerful PC editing machines out there, none of them run Final Cut Pro X. You're bound to receive a Mac formatted drive at some point if you get media from out of house.PCs will be a pain in the ass when you're working with people on Macs that assume the rest of the world has a Mac. My preferred option is to format a drive as ExFAT which allows both systems to read/write large files to the system.

The only reason I have Adobe CC is because one of my clients insisted on it for doing an extensive project a couple of years ago and there is still some occasional work on this one.If you are accustomed to Premiere, Avid, FCP7 or any other editor, it will take you awhile to 'get' FCPX because it is a totally different editing model. It is by far faster and at least as capable as the others, and I will use it every time given the choice. Currently, most of the work I do doesn't require interchange of projects or media, so I can choose the editing software I like best-which is unquestionably FCPX. I have also used FCP, Premiere and Avid since version 1, or close to it.

While you're at it, you may want to learn Motion and Compressor.If you go with Adobe CC, you'll find a lot of uses for Photoshop, AfterEffects, the noise reduction features of Audition, and a few other odds and ends that are just better than Apple's apps, unfortunately.
